This is an authentic vintage haori made of Oshima Tsumugi, one of Japan’s most prestigious silk textiles, produced in Amami Oshima.
■ About Mud Dyeing (Dorozome)
Mud dyeing is a rare natural dyeing technique found only in Amami Oshima.
The silk is dyed repeatedly—over 80 times—using tannin from the sharinbai plant and iron-rich mud.
This process creates a deep, lustrous black with exceptional durability and resistance to fading.
It combines the qualities of animal (silk), plant (dye), and mineral (iron), resulting in a uniquely strong yet refined textile.
