Furoshiki 50cm Tama’s Stroll -Dicember

The “Tama’s Stroll” Series follows the gentle daily life of Tama, a black-and-white (hachiware) cat, as she moves through Japan’s changing seasons.

In this December design, the scene shifts indoors.

Outside, snow quietly falls over a Japanese garden, where camellia flowers (tsubaki) bloom vividly against the cold. A traditional stone lantern stands among the snow, and behind it, a pine tree (matsu)—an auspicious symbol of longevity and resilience—completes the winter landscape.

Inside, however, is warmth.

On days like this, Tama does not go for a walk. Instead, she curls up under a kotatsu—a traditional heated table—resting peacefully. On top of the kotatsu sits a bowl of mikan (mandarin oranges), an iconic element of Japanese winter life.

This scene echoes a well-known Japanese children’s song:
“In winter, cats stay curled up under the kotatsu.”
A simple, familiar image that evokes comfort, nostalgia, and home.

Camellia (tsubaki) blooms in the cold season and symbolizes quiet strength, dignity, and enduring beauty.
Pine (matsu) represents longevity, protection, and good fortune, often used in New Year decorations.

Together, these elements create a composition rich in meaning—capturing both the stillness of winter and the warmth of everyday life.
